Hopefully the Governor's approval for an additional $42.2 million for k-12 will increase his ratings. That is an increase of 9% for education of the future generation. I would like to see news like this more often. Also in the news, "Kulongoski signed House Bill 3511 into law Monday, putting "Jessica's Law" into effect in Oregon, and creating long prison terms for sexual predators who victimize children younger than 12"(Hoklin1). The new minimum for sexual offenders who molest young children is 25 years. I hope this will deter those disgusting criminals. He is not favored so well by the tribes of the Grand Ronde. He denied their petition to build a casino; which, did not go over too well. On April 4, 2006, the Oregonian reported that they ran advertisements against Ted Kulongoski, but were in favor of Jim Hill. They were a bit perturbed over the Governor's decision to allow the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs to build a casino and not them. As of April 22, 22% of people said he was doing a fair job; that was according to the Portland Tribune.

For the week of March 22th through March 27th there was a poll taken everyday throughout the week asking two questions. One asked who the people would vote for, and the other asked how satisfied the residents were with the job Kulongoski was doing as the current Governor. Kulongoski was in favor of the voters at 48%, but fell a little in the middle of the week at only 32%. His approval rating was quite rocky. Only 3.1% thought he was doing an excellent job. They rated him a 21.4% for doing a good job, 34% for doing a fair job, and the highest percentage of votes at 39% set him at a rating of poor. That one has to sting a little.

Theodore (Ted) R. Kulongoski was born in rural Missouri on November 5, 1940. He served in the Marine Corps and later worked at a steel mill in Illinois. Ted served in the Oregon House of Representatives (1975-1978) and the Oregon State Senate (1978-1983). He was appointed Oregon Insurance Commissioner in 1987 and served until 1991. Kulongoski is the only governor in Oregon’s history to serve in all three branches of government at the state level: legislator, supreme court justice, and governor. As Governor, Kulongoski entered office faced with a $3 billion deficit in the state budget. Since then, he has created many jobs and is diminishing the enormous deficit. He is now looking to get re-elected in 2006. As of the end of March, he is ahead of all the other candidates in the polls. He is favored by 50% of people in Oregon as of February 27, 2006. Nipping at his heels is Republican candidate Kevin Mannix. We will see who wins this race for the finish line as the months pass.

Apparently, John Greene is still losing the race for governor of Arizona in 2006. Janet Napolitano has an even more commanding lead over Greene. She has a 58-24 percent lead to be exact. He really needs to step up to the plate if he wants to win. Arizona more or less a Republican state, and Napolitano is the only state wide elected Democrat. It seems there isn't much that he is doing to win other than putting his name on the ballot.

There is a new guy in town ready to dive into the governor's race. His name is Len Munsil. Munsil is a conservative activist. He once dressed completely in white to protest against same sex marriages and abortion at the state capitol. Apparently he has collected more than 1,000 $5 contributions in less than two weeks. It may be a long shot, but he is certainly putting in the effort. He founded the Center for Arizona Policy. The Scottsdale-based organization promotes itself as "actively fighting in the Legislature and media for conservative, traditional views on gambling, homosexuality and pornography"(Scutari 1). Munsil has $3,200 left to collect from donations until he can qualify for the $454,000 given at the primaries.

John Greene is not happy with the way Janet Napolitano is handling the budget in Arizona. He compared it the way Paris Hilton handles her money. I don't know if badgering another candidate is the best way to gain attention to yourself, but is seems to be the route he wants to take. Greene stated, "Napolitano’s position that illegal immigration is a federal problem is a “cop-out"(Riske 1). According to the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University, Napolitano leads John Greene 58 percent to 16 percent with 26 percent undecided. The 15-to-20 percent of the vote garnered by John Greene and Don Goldwater should be considered the ‘core' Republican or anti-Napolitano.

Candidate John Greene doesn't seem to have a chance at gaining office for Arizona Governor. Therefore, I have decided to avert my attention to candidate Janet Napolitano. She seems to be a favorite among Arizonans, and is the current Governor of Arizona. Napolitano vows to use the $10.1 billion state budget to make life better for the people of Arizona. She plans to tighten security at the border to deter illegal immigration. She wants to make healthcare unavailable to those who climb over border, have their children, and expect to become instant citizens. She proposed spending increases of $100 million to beef up law enforcement on the border and $215 million to increase state employees' salaries by 7.5 percent. Although illegal immigration is a growing epidemic in Arizona, Napolitano's number one priority is still to enhance education for our children. She has asked for an extra $250 million to invest in education. I believe she will be a very hard candidate to beat in the 2006 election.

John Greene is running for Governor of Arizona in 2006. He was the president of the Senate from 1993 to 1997. Athough Greene is a republican candidate he seems to have several democratic viewpoints. Some examples are that he is against the ban on gay marriage and he believes in a woman's right to choose. Greene is a partner at Hahn Howard & Greene law firm, and in order to start with a strong financial foundation he will be publicly funded. The recent poles suggest an uphill battle for Greene if he wants to stand a chance against current Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano. He is trailing behind Napolitano 56% to 23% as of late December 2005. I will continue to update you to the status of Greene's campaign as the weeks progress.
